After the thunderstorms and steady rainfall through the night, the rose-pink light of dawn was a beautiful sight this morning. The wind was light, it was the first morning to hear the White-throated Sparrows singing and I anticipated a good day. I was excited and right from the the first net round to the last, I wasn’t disappointed!
The highlights for birds banded included: Fox Sparrows, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, White-throated Sparrows, and a Chipping Sparrow. New birds banded for the season included: a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, a Swamp Sparrow, a Field Sparrow, and a Carolina Wren!
In addition to the White-throated Sparrows singing this morning, I heard and saw the first Blue-gray Gnatcatcher early in the morning, and a second Purple Martin arrived around mid-morning to join the only other martin that arrived last Wednesday. Also, there was a large influx of Dark-eyed Juncos this morning.
