April 9th – Quality if not Quantity.

Today was a day for long johns, down vests and a woolly toque. The temperature was a chilly + 1C at dawn…thankfully still on the “plus” side of the scale, so I did not have to deal with frozen nets!

Ruby-crowned Kinglets made an appearance today, a first for the season. I had a lovely male Yellow-rumped Warbler, and a beautiful female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. So although the wind billowed the nets and reduced the catch rate, I did manage some lovely birds for my efforts.
