Storms dumped 22 mm of rain (mixed with hail in Brantford) overnight at Ruthven Park. As more was scheduled it was with some trepidation I set out to band this morning with dramatic flashes of lightning on the horizon. As it turns out I needn’t have worried, the rain and hail didn’t hit me until I got out of the car at home at the end of the day….

A fairly quiet day, but there is distinct evidence that fall migration is heating up with the appearance of the first Yellow-Bellied Flycatchers of the fall season. Also banded was an adult male Golden-Winged Warbler (2nd of the year) and a juvenile male American Kestrel (first of the year – possibly a Ruthven first too).

The mosquito swarm continues unabated.
