August 25th – Slow and Steady

Blue-winged Warblers were a rarity 25 years ago but now are regular breeders at Ruthven. -N. Furber

Yesterday afternoon and evening Southwestern Ontario was under a Tornado Watch alert. Through the night there were severe thunderstorms, with heavy rain and high winds. It was warm and muggy when I opened this morning!

Visiting the banding lab this morning was a group of day-campers that were spending their day at Ruthven. Unfortunately, we only had a few birds to show them. Despite the slow day, the highlight was banding the Veery.
