July 24 Summer Banding

The weather today was clear, cool, and comfortable. After last week’s extreme heat and humidity, it was a welcome relief, feeling more like an early September day. With the beautiful weather, a number of visitors were enjoying their visit to the banding lab, observing the birds we were handling, and helping with the net checks and closing. We handled a total of 22 birds today; some of them were young birds that had fledged like the Yellow Warblers, Black-capped Chickadees, and Gray Catbirds. Others, were the adult birds, some of which are the late nesters such as the Cedar Waxwings and the American Goldfinch.
