My son Matthew and I were at Ruthven today working around the banding lab and filling the feeders. It was a beautiful day with the warmer temperatures, the sun shining, and the sights and the sounds of spring all around! We walked the River Trail where the ‘walking’ was more slipping and sliding on the muddy trail and jumping around icebergs! There were huge slabs and smaller chunks of ice laying all along the River Trail with a southern portion of the trail still flooded. Over the morning I encountered 24 species. My favorite bird was the Tundra Swan. Even though I have seen different flocks of them over the past two weeks I love to hear their haunting call as they move through on migration.
