It was another cool, raw day that found most passerine migrants at Ruthven staying put. Like yesterday, there were many more retraps – 3.5:1 as a matter of fact. I like Juncos but….enough is enough. I’d like to handle something different (and new) for a change.
There were a couple of large (50+) flocks of Double-crested Cormaorants going up the river and a solitary Common Loon headed north up very high. Other than that it was an unremarkable day.

You sound like you’re getting depressed as a result of the lack of variety in bird species around. I don’t think Ruthven has antidepressants in its budget, so hopefully the migration will be back into full swing after the upcoming spurt of nice weather.
I had two Myrtle Warblers in my backyard again on Saturday, along with a Caspian Tern.
What sort of shape are the Kinglets in these days?
I had Caspian Terns and Black-Crowned Night Herons in Hamilton on Monday. Still lots of juncos there too though.
