Migration Monitoring – May 21st, 2007

A light frost overnight and fog started off this holiday Monday. Apparently the birds were taking a holiday too as relatively few birds were banded and there was not much of a dawn chorus.

Human visitors were in plentiful supply however as 36 people made their way through the banding station and birding trails throughout the morning. While it proved impossible to conjure up a much desired Siberian Rubythroat for the crowd, the capture of an ASY male Indigo Bunting came as at least some consolation.

A sundog (rainbow around the sun) made for a spectacular sight around noon.

Species new for the season recorded today were Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher and Grey-Cheeked Thrush.
