Migration Monitoring – October 2nd, 2007

Rain, heavy at times, fell through the night and into the early morning finally stopping around 7:00 (Standard Time). I was out quickly after that to set up some of the nets (as it was still threatening) and, having done so, did a quick census. Despite the night’s poor weather there were a number of new birds around (including Blue-headed Vireos – first for the Season), and quite of lot of visible migration. We did not catch a lot of the birds however. Most seemed to be foraging high, above net level, especially the Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Banded 28:
1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
1 Eastern Phoebe
1 House Wren
3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets

3 Chipping Sparrows
1 Field Sparrow
2 White-throated Sparrows
2 American Goldfinches

Retrapped 4:
1 Downy Woodpecker
