November 20th – A Big Surprise!
What a beautiful day: mild and little wind. Good banding conditions. Nancy opened the only nets we have open: the sets around the feeders that we will maintain throughout the Winter.
We were getting a lot of American Goldfinches but on one net round I noticed a very bright one. Turned out to be a very late Nashville Warbler!
It was a HY (or young) male and should have been 1,000+ km to the south of us by now. I would liked to have known what his “trajectory” was that caused him to be this far north still.
