October 13th – A Lull

Overcast skies and showers starting yesterday evening and going throughout the night slowed the migration down considerably. We had much more “manageable” numbers today – or it was a little more boring; depends on your point of view, I guess.
A good number of birds that we’ve recently banded stuck around; a third of the birds we handled today were retraps – 25 out of 75. It was interesting that the kinglet and Yellow-rumped Warbler numbers dropped right off (compared to the weekend) but we got a respectable number of White-throated Sparrows. Why? I just don’t know….
