October 4th – A Rain Day

You don't get rainbows without rain.....

You don’t get rainbows without rain…..

Cool temperatures brought rain with them…or is it the other way around? Either way, the temperature stayed at just 10 throughout the morning and the rain persisted except for a lull of about an hour.

I baited ground traps and opened just a couple of nets during the lull.

The first Yellow-rumped Warbler banded this Fall.

I got a couple of “nice” birds (they’re all nice, aren’t they?) including a Blue-headed Vireo and the first Yellow-rumped Warbler of the season. We had seen a few of these in the last week but this was the first one that we caught. It feels like they are late this year.

Banded 14:
7 Mourning Doves
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
1 Gray-cheeked Thrush
1 American Robin
1 Blue-headed Vireo
1 Myrtle (Yellow-rumped) Warbler
1 White-throated Sparrow
1 House Finch

ET’s: 26 spp.
