Friday, September 12th

Just as I was about to open the last net the rain started. I was soaked, but in a different way than I was soaked at the gas pumps later in the day.

Monday, September 15th

The remains of “Ike” hit last night and brought visions of Fork-Tailed Flycatchers and Blue Grosbeaks. They, of course, did not appear but it did rain again just after the nets were opened. A familiar theme this weekend.

The rain did abate however and I got the nets re-opened. There were still not many birds around but they did include the season’s first Ruby-Crowned Kinglet and Grey-Cheeked Thrush.

A female Common Merganser was found on the river in front of the mansion moving very fast with the current.

Banded: 18
Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher 1
Magnolia Warbler 2
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet 1
Blackpoll Warbler 1
Eastern Wood Pewee 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Red-Eyed Vireo 2 (not sure what the fall record is, but we’ve banded a lot of them this season)
Grey-Cheeked Thrush 1
Swainson’s Thrush 4
Song Sparrow 1
Wood Thrush 1
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak 1

Retrapped: 8
