It was a nice morning to be out banding. The heat and humidity of the past few days finally moved through, and with it some of the local birds. While banding numbers remain low, diversity continues to be good.
Today a great group of volunteers handled 38 birds (28 new, 10 recaptures). The banding highlight was 2 Canada Warblers, our first for the fall season. It was a nice treat to have Maureen, a returning volunteer from several years ago, stop by to help out with the banding.
One of the birding highlights was a single Solitary Sandpiper, as well as impressive numbers of Eastern Wood Pewees.
Hopefully many more southbound migrants will visit our nets with the cooler weather forecasted for the rest of the week.
