It was a warm and calm start to the morning, turning to heavy rain shortly before noon. Despite the poor weather (and having to close the nets an hour early) we still handled 42 birds (30 new, 12 recaptures).
The banding was dominated by vireos, with 9 Red-eyed and 1 Warbling, and a Yellow-throated was heard singing near the banding lab. We recaptured a Magnolia Warbler that was in heavy moult, originally banded in August.
The census highlight was a Merlin toying with the growing flocks of Cedar Waxwings. A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was also seen, busily eating caterpillars in the Black Walnut trees.
