It was raining pretty good when I headed out to Ruthven this morning….to the point that it woiuld have been foolish (and dangerous for the birds to open the nets). So I waited….and did some data entry and waited some more. When it began to taper off I scooted around the census root and then, when I was pretty confident that the rain was over, I opened most of the nets.

When we’re sleeping at night, the skies above us are often alive with birds – winging their way to Winter homes. But when they run into a burst of bad weather – like last night’s showers – they come to earth to sit it out. So when I finally got the nets opened I wasn’t overly surprised to see a nice mix of warblers. In fact, 69% of the birds banded today were warblers.

Banded 26:
1 Blue Jay
1 White-breasted Nuthatch
1 Gray Catbird
1 Philadelphia Vireo
4 Red-eyed Vireos
4 Tennessee Warblers
2 Nashville Warblers
2 Magnolia Warblers
1 Black-throated blue Warbler
2 Black-throated Green Warblers
5 Blackpoll Warblers
2 Wilson’s Warblers
