December 24th – An Early Present

I went to Ruthven to fill up the feeders and to do a census. Good thing. While filling the feeders I heard a ‘chip’ note and immediately thought, “What the heck is that doing here!?” followed quickly by, “You better find it because it shouldn’t be here if it’s what you think it is.” But it was…a lovely Yellow-rumped Warbler cavorting in the willows just to the south of the Mansion. I would really like to know this bird’s history – why was it here when it could have been soaking up the sun in Cuba?
