May 12th – the Diversity Builds

Cold and clear at first light. Net #4 was frozen and we had to wait about an hour to open it. One of the first birds I heard this morning was a Tennessee Warbler – a first for the year. There was, in fact, quite a lot of bird song early – but it died down pretty quickly after the sun got well up. Although the banding numbers were…uninspiring, we had the highest species count for the overall site so far this year: 64.
