Migration Monitoring
April 16th, 2007

A less than perfect banding day with gusty NW winds, so that only the most sheltered nets in the valley could be opened. Then when it started to rain… I called it quits.

Migration is pretty much stalled, as indicated by the lack of “new” birds. Retrapped birds outnumbered “new” birds by a significant margin.

The river was all but deserted by the birds. Even the pair of Canada Geese that have been squawking at me for the last couple weeks as I passed “their” spot on the bank were absent. One muskrat was quite oblivious to the wind and spitting rain happily swimming near the shore and puttering around on the bank.

1 Blue Jay
1 Golden-crowned Kinglet
1 American Robin
1 Northern Cardinal
