Migration Monitoring

Hmmm, a blast of winter. This must mean that I’m banding this alleged spring Easter weekend….

Very cold temps, gusting winds and snow flurries. Who could ask for anything more? I could, for a start.

We only used Net 1 and a couple of traps but did fairly respectably during the several hours it was open. First sightings of Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker this season. A flock of Tree Swallows was observed foraging along the riverbank. They looked wretched.

Banded 18:
3 American Goldfinch
12 Dark-eyed Junco
1 American Tree Sparrow
1 Field Sparrow
1 Song Sparrow

Retrapped 11:
3 American Goldfinch
5 Dark-eyed Junco
1 Downy Woodpecker
1 Hairy Woodpecker
1 Mourning Dove
