Migration Monitoring

It was clear…it clouded over…then it cleared again. Frost early made opening a pain as the nets kept sliding back down the poles. But all’s well that ends well…so somebody said….

Very busy day for this time of year: banded 51 and retrapped 19. Also had a species count of 43 – which included another early Common Loon and another Fox Sparrow. Junco’s were on the move: we handled 30 altogether.

Banded 51:
2 Mourning Doves
2 Downy Woodpeckers
1 White-breasted Nuthatch
1 Winter Wren
11 Golden-crowned Kinglets
1 American Tree Sparrow
5 Song Sparrow
1 White-throated Sparrow
19 Slate-coloured Junco
1 Brown-headed Cowbird
7 American Goldfinch

Retrapped 19:
1 Hairy Woodpecker
3 Down Woodpeckers
2 Black-capped Chickadee
1 American Robin
1 American Tree sparrow
11 Slate-coloured Junco
